Thinking about travelling to Cambodia or Vietnam? Customer Kathryn Bailey has just returned from her trip and she told us all about her travels…
“When my housemate and I decided we needed a holiday, our first port of call was the lovely Lizzie. We gave her a pretty open brief – we wanted to go somewhere hot, somewhere we could explore and immerse ourselves in the culture, but also somewhere where we could relax, unwind and forget the stresses of London living. Lizzie came back to us an itinerary that ticked all the boxes; an adventure in Cambodia and Vietnam with none of the hassle of organising it ourselves.
First stop Siem Reap, Cambodia. We bounded off the plane to be met by our guide, Hun, who would be looking after us for the next three days. We were greeted with a warm welcome at our hotel…glorious sunshine, lush greenery, the therapeutic sound of a waterfall – heaven!
We then spent the most amazing three days visiting a host of temples within the region including the Rolous Group, Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat. I’d seen photos of some of these temples, but nothing can prepare you for just how beautiful they are in real life. And Hun really helped to make this the most fantastic experience. Not only did he offer lots of practical advice (like how to avoid queues, Tarantula nests and flesh-eating ants!) but he also provided us with lots of cultural and historical info too. Plus, he was an amazing photographer, as you can see!
Then, after a farewell cocktail at our hotel (it would be rude not to!) we were on the next flight to Hanoi. The first thing that struck me about Hanoi is just how ‘buzzy’ and vibrant it felt. There’s so much going on! The first day was a whistle-stop tour of the city where we really got to absorb the city’s atmosphere.
And the next day we were also lucky enough to cruise the emerald waters of Halong Bay…
Next, Ho Chi Minh City! First up, was a city tour, followed by a trip to the Gu Chi tunnels. We opted to go down into some of the tunnels – what an experience. Day two here was an action-packed trip to the Mekong Delta. There was some bike-riding, a boat trip, afternoon tea with a local family, fruit eating, spring roll making (I’m hopeless), karaoke (don’t ask!)… the list goes on!
And with that, we were on to the last leg of our journey – the stunning island of Phu Quoc. The fun started at the airport when we had to board the tiniest prop plane ever! It was totally worth it to spend five glorious days drinking in the sunshine, lounging on the beach, eating the most delicious food and drinking the best cocktails…what could be better than that?! We also made lots of new friends, including a family of geckos and a lovely green beetle that resided in our bungalow!
Needless to say, it really was the most amazing holiday. We experienced so much in such a short space of time, and still had time to relax. We’re already planning our next trip with Lizzie!”
