Heading to the beach with children in tow? We know it’s important to find a child-friendly beach, so we’ve asked our Travel Counsellors for their recommendations. From shallow waters for little ones to dip their toes into, to food stalls to keep everyone with full tummies, here’s 7 child-friendly beaches our Travel Counsellors think you should visit!

Europe

Canet-Plage (near Perpignan) France

France
Recommended by Travel Counsellor Gail Buckley: “The beach has fine white sand and it’s really long and wide. You can walk out far into the sea and the water stays shallow. And there’s not a rock or stone in sight!”

Santo Tomas, Menorca

Recommended by Travel Counsellor Claire Perry: “The beach at Santo Tomas, Menorca, is amazing for little ones, as is Son Bou, it’s very shallow and calm and you can walk out a good 300 meters or so before it gets deep.”

Algarve, Portugal

Algarve
Recommended by Travel Counsellor Mandy Walsh: “The beaches of the Algarve are simply perfect for families -white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters! I particularly love the area of Santa Eulalia and Albufeira as many of the hotels and resorts have direct access to the beaches along there.”

Middle East

Kite Beach, Dubai

Dubai
Recommended by Travel Counsellor Sharan Hussain: “Kite Beach in Dubai is fabulous for kids. There’s a children’s play area and you can watch the kite surfers.”

Australia

Gold Coast, Queensland

Australia
Recommended by Travel Counsellor Kerrie Croft: “There are some fantastic beaches on the flat water Broadwater area with swimming enclosures at some key spots, such as Southport, Labrador and Paradise Point. On the southern end are Tallebudgera creek and Currumbin creek where wide creeks with sandy beaches ideal for kids flow into the surf beaches – it’s the best of both worlds close together!”

Newcastle Beach, New South Wales

Newcastle beach
Recommended by Travel Counsellor Lani Symons Vaughan: “Newcastle Beach in the heart of Newcastle – it has a separate little side beach/wading pool area called the Canoe Pool which is fantastic for kids.”

Sydney area, New South Wales

Manly Australia
Recommended by Travel Counsellor Jenny Tucker: “Shelly Beach in Manly has a fabulous kiosk close by to while away the afternoon with takeaway or dine in. There are rocks to explore and you can also snorkel – it’s perfect all day until sun down. Little Manly Beach also has a kiosk close by and rocks to explore. It faces west so it’s perfect into late afternoon.”
